Soil Testing Begins for Polytechnic–Indira Canal Elevated Corridor in Lucknow
LUCKNOW The government authorities have taken a major step towards easing its notorious traffic snarls with soil testing now underway for the upcoming elevated corridor between Polytechnic Chauraha and Indira Canal. The testing is currently being conducted in front of the new bench of the Lucknow High Court, as well as near the Awadh Bus Station at Kamta Chauraha — two crucial points along the planned route. This marks the first visible sign that construction work may soon begin on this long-awaited project.
A 10-Kilometre Lifeline to Ease Ayodhya Road Congestion
Spanning approximately 8 to 10 kilometers, the elevated corridor is being jointly developed by the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD), UP Setu Nigam, and the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). Once completed, the corridor will enable high-speed, signal-free vehicular movement over traffic-heavy areas such as Engineering College, Khurram Nagar, Munshipulia, and Kamta—greatly improving travel efficiency towards Ayodhya and Gorakhpur.
From Sitapur to Ayodhya Road—One Continuous Flyover Route
The corridor is designed to integrate with existing infrastructure like the Engineering College, Khurram Nagar, and Munshipulia flyovers. Vehicles coming from Sitapur Road will be able to directly access Ayodhya Road through this elevated stretch, eliminating several major traffic choke points and ensuring smoother commutes.
Setu Nigam to Build the Corridor After NHAI Transfers Jurisdiction
The project gained traction after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) transferred the maintenance responsibility of the Polytechnic–Indira Canal stretch to UP PWD. This has paved the way for UP Setu Nigam to take over construction duties. With soil testing now being carried out at multiple strategic points—including the High Court and Kamta—physical groundwork for the project has clearly begun.
Metro Corridor Planned Alongside for Long-Term Urban Mobility
In a major push towards integrated urban transport, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has also directed the state government to simultaneously plan a metro rail corridor on the same route—from Polytechnic to Kisan Path. This parallel mass-transit initiative aims to serve densely populated residential areas and emerging townships along Faizabad Road.
The High Court has set a two-month deadline for finalising the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Government agencies are working to ensure both the elevated road and the proposed metro line are planned in tandem. LDA sources suggest the metro extension could eventually connect with the broader Lucknow Metro network, offering residents a sustainable and efficient public transport option.
